This doll came with me to a book signing.
Writing stories was as much a part of my childhood as climbing trees and playing with dolls. After earning degrees in creative writing and child psychology, I worked for 15 years as a children's book editor. Now I write from my home in Madison, Wisconsin, where I still occasionally climb trees—and (ahem...) play with dolls.
What else do I enjoy? Coaching a girls' running team, snuggling with my cat, and hanging out with my nieces and nephews. They help me remember what it's like to be a kid, which makes it easier to write books that kids care about. I love to meet readers, too, at book signings and in classrooms. Every child I meet has a unique story to tell!
